Filming Pilates and reformer sessions
By Con, founder of Music Wide Selfie · Updated 22 October 2026
Short answerPlace the phone side-on at about the height of the reformer or mat, far enough back to fit the whole machine and your full extension. Ask the studio and anyone nearby before filming.
Placement
- Side-on for spinal alignment.
- Low for mat work, reformer height for machine work.
- Landscape fits long movements.
Light
Studios are often bright. Avoid windows directly behind you.
Etiquette
Ask the instructor and keep other clients out of shot.
Questions
Can filming help my technique?
Yes: seeing yourself side-on shows alignment you can’t feel.
