How to film yoga and stretching on your phone
By Con, founder of Music Wide Selfie · Updated 22 October 2026
Short answerPut the phone low, around mat height to knee height, side-on to the mat and far enough back to fit your full length lying down and your raised arms standing up. Light from the front or side, not behind.
Placement
- Side-on to the mat for most poses.
- Low enough to see floor poses clearly.
- Far enough for standing poses with arms up.
Light
A window to the side gives shape. Avoid a bright window behind you.
Sound
If you’re cueing breath or teaching, get the phone or a mic closer to you, or record voiceover after.
Safety
Filming is a bonus; don’t push into a pose to get a better shot.
Questions
Landscape or vertical?
Landscape fits lying-down poses better. Vertical suits short clips of standing poses.
